As we reported yesterday, American Idol host/creator Simon Cowell announced this season will be his last on the show. Apparently, Cowell is going to begin development on an American version of X-Factor. Try to follow the bread-crumb trail: Over in the UK, there was Pop Idol, which is what American Idol came out of; Pop Idol was outdone and defeated by X-Factor. That’s why a lot of people are predicting the American version of X-Factor is going to kill the American version of Pop Idol. Which is American Idol. Get it?
Anyway, Ellen DeGeneres, who was just hired to join the panel on American Idol, has said she is “not trying to take it personally.”
“I know Simon is excited about his new project, mostly because he’ll have a bigger stake in X-Factor than he had in Idol,” she said. “But I’m the real winner here. They finally gave Idol a makeover. No more flashy sets. No more obnoxious fans. No more cameras. Just a slight stench of cat urine and B.O. Just me and Randy Jackson in a warehouse, listening to real singing from real people. Oh, crap! You’ll have to excuse me, I believe one of our contestants has just taken off with my wardrobe in his shopping cart.”
